Northern Sweden Soil Remediation Center (MCN), active since 2001 has recently been granted funding for a new three year period, from 2008-2011, with a total of 1.8 M Euro, including 0,9 M Euro from Nutek (Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth). The objective is to continue advancing the practice of risk assessment and remediation of polluted sites based on research and development of international collaborations. The center is led by the Institution of Chemistry, Umeå University, with research partners; the Geology and Waste Science and Technology departments at Luleå University of Technology, the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and the Swedish Agricultural University. Active industry research partners include the Tyréns, Ramböll and Pelagia consultancies, Ragnsells Waste and Recycling, Nordmark Miljö , and MB Envtirotek remediation company. Other partners in research and reference groups are Billerud Paper, Processum, Svevia, Sweco, WSP Environmental, Väglaboratoriet Norr, Bioclear and Alterra (Netherlands), Regenesis (USA), and Health Canada, Ottawa (Canada).
