Our last project period, 2008-2011 was summarized in a workshop, held at Tyréns office in Stockholm, on December 1st 2011. 40 invited participants from varying branches of the business joined challeging discussion to help focus future research on contaminated land management.

ALS offer oxy-PAH analysis |

LTU and RGS/90 (MCN project C) starts collaboraton with Halden Municipality Norway |
|

|
Anders Lagerkvist and Jurate Kumpiene from LTU, and Jonny Bergman from RGS90 have visited Halden municipality in Norway to discuss possibilities for cooperation within the areas of soil remediation and waste management. As a first assignment, LTU will find solutions for safe landfilling of arsenic contaminated soil. The future cooperation might be expanded to finding solutions for management of other types of waste in Halden as well as development of landfill technologies.

Award Best Thesis Work 2010 |

|
The Master Thesis work by Erika Andersson at Umeå University, currently based at the County administration in Halland, received the award Best Thesis by the Swedish organisation Nätverket Renare mark. She studied the respiration of microrganisms as a method to access the effects of pollutants on the soil eco system. The work was part of MCN project I (Ecotox methods for environmental risk asessment).

Seminarium on treatment methods for tailings |

MCN project B and the organisation Nätverket Renare Mark arranged a seminar om treatment methods for mining waste. The seminar was held in Luleå Nov. 16-17th, and attracted 76 delegates from consultancies, authorities and research in Sweden, Finland, Norway, France and the UK. Division of Waste Science &Technology at Luleå University of Technology turns 30 this fall. It is celebrated the 16th of November with seminars and discussions under the theme “What kind of waste research is needed in the future?“
Avfallsteknik vid Luleå tekniska universitet fyller 30 år i höst. Det firas med en heldag den 16 november med seminarier och diskussioner under temat "Vilken avfallsforskning behövs i framtiden?". Arrangemanget startar med lunch och avslutas med en gemensam middag med underhållning. Ett fullständigt program kommer senare att skickas ut till dem som anmäler sitt intresse.

Funding for EU -China research collaboration awarded |
|

|
Project proposal GLOCOM submitted to the EU FP7 Marie Curie IRSES, received high scores in the evaluation and has been selected for final negotiations with the EU ERA. The project will most likely be awarded and can be expected to start in first quarter of 2011. University Ca’ Foscari of Venice, Umeå University (MCN), Bejing Normal University and CRAES (China Research Academy of Environmental Science), submitted the proposal GLOCOM (Global Partners in Contaminated Land Management) to the EU FP7 Call People 2010- IRSES in March 2010. GLOCOM is plannned as a 4-year program for exchange of 36 researchers for a total of 188 months, with research to focus on fate of contaminants, risk assessment and management of contaminated sites. MCN director Professor Mats Tysklind is very pleased and excited by the news. - We view GLOCOM as a long-term strategic investment in research collaboration on the management of contaminated sites for China and Europe.
